I think I figured it out! Thanks to @TotalyHucked and the pics he posted. It's the trim around the HVAC controls, or the vent above it.

I thought that too, but it would have had to separate from the black part I guess, which is all one part, but I guess could break.

That was literally my first thought as I have one laying in my truck, but not having the black backer I was like that's not it.

I only know they are a separate piece because the one on my drivers door is loose. I never looked to see how it’s actually attached though.

Coming home work the other day and I dropped a cylinder. Petty much knew what it was as this hasn’t been the 1st time.

Burnt smooth into. About an inch from the boot. It’s between 3 & 5. I even use a straight boot on this one with 6” boot sleeves. I keep spare wires so just had to make up another to get going again. Can’t believe Hooker designed the tubes like that!

So that leads to this.....

Time for fresh plugs anyway and figured I’d try the titanium wire sleeves to back up the boot sleeves. Just rounded lol this up so I reckon my night is spoken for.

Cut the bottom open - one last use before it goes to the chemical factory in the sky.



Gawd, that ***** stinks ..

Anyway, if it holds, the trim is back in place.


Looks like it had 4 pins originally that went thru the door panel.

Dunno if it was friction fit, or had speed nuts on the back.

Too lazy to pull the door panel off again to find out.

The stainless piece has speed nuts if I remember correctly so that probably did too.

My 1980 door panel has pins that I think it sticks into the black part. No speed nuts. But I do question what year my panels are because some of the parts I don't think match up to the truck. The map pockets I think are from a different year but not sure of the rest but I think it's right.

I have had that door panel off a few times when I was chasing the lock issue but never looked at the back.

So, no idea. And, I still want some LMC map pockets to install.

None on mine - got the speakers instead.

Cool, but hope those pods don't break as that was another 1 year only feature as far as I know.
