No idea the CCA, but the battery in Goldie is a Rural King - never heard of that brand before .

Must be a regional thang.

It works, though !:waytogo:
Rural King is a Farm and Garden store chain in IN, IL, FL, and maybe another state or two.

Cool - thanks for the info !

Who makes them?

IIRC, there are only like 3 battery makers - one is Johnson Controls .

I have had good luck with the Wally World batteries- they used to be called Champion but now they are Everstart.

My Dad told me a long time ago that batteries were NOT the place to be cheap- buy the best.

In terms of CCA and warranty.

Tried to continue welding floor patch in. Tried is the keyword.

Punched three new holes in OEM floor. before I

Using a HF internal flux welder. Flux weld is a bitch to grind down.

Quit before I made things worse.

Went back to honeydo's.

PS I really suck at welding. On my fifth spool of wire.

Get one of these, new or used. Lincoln pro mig 135. It’s good to 3/16”. I’ve penetrated 1/4” with a preheat.

Flux is fine for certain applications, but not ideal for sheet metal. I use this welder, on the same 30’ 10gauge extension cord, plugged into a 20 amp outlet, micrometer the metal I’m working and the settings chart inside the machine is spot on every time. Your ground also needs to be perfect or it effectively changes your machine’s “heat” setting. Length of wire out past the gun will do the same.

All of those variables matter. When doing thinner metal, I pull as opposed to push. A lot of people push mig and .035f, but I get the most even penetration when pulling. Also remember to shoot and move—stitch from tack to tack, then move to a new(cool) area. Even if you want to touch up a weld, come back to it once it’s cool again.

I have the same welder as above. Great unit for 120v/20 amp service.

Thanks for the advice on a good welder for sheet medal. I was looking at the 140 or 125. Would those be good too, or is the 135 better for sheet metal?

As long as it's a Lincoln, Miller or Hobart they're probably pretty equal.

It's too bad Harbor Freight went all Hollywood with their welders, I really like mine, and it was only 250 bucks.

Probably the same one I have. What are your settings? I found “min” power and “3” wire speed work best for me on sheet metal, although I’m not sure how consistent it would be between different machines. You’re using quality wire right? Not the HF crap.
I agree with the above, a better unit will make life much easier; I have access to a really nice Miller and it’s such a treat to weld with. Can’t bring myself to spend the money though since I’ve been able to make the HF beater work for my needs.

Good to know. I'll check out sales/deals at Tractor Supply, Home Depot, Craigslist, etc. for a decent unit later in the year.

Love the little 135, have one I got 11 years ago, bought a two bottle cart so I have a bottle of stargon and an argon bottle, then bought a spool gun for aluminum for it too. Best all around welder Iv'e ever had, still haven't broke a think on it except for wore a liner out and replaced that.
