I guess it depends on your starting point but I did all my work myself in restoring my truck and the total price thus far is well north of that 5-7k guess LOL I'd say that's a VERY conservative number but do agree with doing these things yourself is far more productive and at least you know the quality of work going into it. :D

Ya I guess it depends if you are ordering everything from LMC or just doing it yourself. Like the dash for instance is really only a $100 fix but loads of labor involved vs the $400 LMC reto crap dash

Or the LMC bumpers vs just a re chrome job at the chromers etc etc ......

Sometimes things like dash pads, door panels, carpets, bumpers,..... are in such a shape that they are not restoreable so new replacements are a must or at the least scouring the pick 'n pull or CL to get used restorable parts. My point was after paint and body, drivetrain refresh, interior,.... you're going to spend more than the 5-7k to fully restore any older vehicle unless your starting point is further along to begin with and just needs a quick refresh. If the cost was the low to restore a vehicle a lot more people would do it IMO

Ya I know. My point is that a roll of vinyl and foam is way cheaper then the LMC route and if done right looks even better!

Buying replacement parts is not the same as doing it yourself!

Or you could go my route and have no intention of it looking like stock. Door panel broke? Didn't need that part anyways.

LOL....yes, rolling without door panels sounds like an impeccable long term solution when trying to build a nice truck :roflbow:

I redid my transfer case for $250 the only other alternative was $1300 for a refurbished one. I saved $1050 dollars by rebuilding it myself. And it was super easy!

My transmissions I will redo my self including the 4L80 I am planning. Engine same deal.

Body work is as expensive as a couple cans of paint the spool of welder wire and the replacement sheet metal.

Luckily I have solid axles already otherwise I would probably be around 8k

I'm seriously considering losing the doors altogether and going to hang out with the Jeep guys.

well, now we're going down a different route that makes the debate we're having obsolete LOL Sounds like you'd be building more of an off road buggy kind of truck which is cool, also, and ideas are endless and you go put as little or as much money into that as you see fit. :)

Materials for body work (not counting the sheet metal) was in $500-$800 range for all the paints and misc necessities
