IIRC from my first car that had the same radio you are removing (over a decade ago) i only could use the Illumination wire with my Pioneer radio. I think in that case the factory dimmer wouldn't work with the radio but when it saw power on the illumination wire it would trigger the internal dimmer for night mode.

what radio are you installing and what do the instructions suggest?

I got it installed
Two new 4x10's ( all new wires)
Wires run for kick panel speakers
New Bluetooth Mic
And a USB in the ash tray
Contemplating pulling the lighter and making a USB port where the lighter is now

Your driving around in a 20-30 year old metal box. It takes a lot of time and effort to make these trucks sound good.

Install your kicks. 4x10s are horrible speakers. My new kenwoods are mediocre at best, but they were cheap and better then no speakers for now

Kicks, set the fader to mostly front so your 4x10 arr fill

I agree it is an old truck
And I love it
I'm thinking about filling the void behind the 4x10's with Polyfil

And yes
The 4x10's SUCK
they don't even fit in the space
If I'm going to cut to make something fit it will be for 6x9's
But it is 1000% better than stock

6.5s not 6x9...

do your kicks first, then worry about what is behind you.

Already got the Kick panels in
I'll probably poly fill those as well

It's hard for me to explain what I want in sound quality

What would you suggest for rear speakers???

This is the long term plan
6x9's where the 4x10's are
A 12" sub and amp where the spare tire is
And I'll be done
(For now!!!)
Until it becomes our long trip hauler with a 12v Cummins and a nv5600

If you are putting in a sub anyway, 5.25 or 6.5 where your 4x10s are. Trust me, it will sound way better
