Got this yesterday, not pretty but it'll tow.

I need to fix some issues:
  • Emergency/park brake cables.
  • Driveshaft support bearing
  • Fuel gauge/sender
  • Rear brake line
The VIN shows up as an R10, but:
  • axles don't looks like what it came with (Google images)
  • transmission and/or engine appear to not be from that model (Trans rubs/hits cross member.)
I think it might be an R10/R30 frankenstein - I need help identifying things so I can get parts.

Thanks.
The cab swap was the direction I was thinking too.
The transmission touching the cross member makes me wonder what else is different.

I'm new to these vehicles, only other GM I've had was an 01 Cavalier.

It's denifitely a 1 ton frame based on the rear spring/shock set up. Someone may have removed the hydroboost on the brakes though. Here's how my K30 looks.

That's no Dana 70 rear axle so it wasn't a pick up. Appears to be a 1 ton Cab & Chassis truck. Body may have been a rust bucket and some had legal title to hit hard in the rear R10 and swaped the cab and nose from that R10. Looks to be Vac boosted brakes like an R20, no TBI like 87 would have been.

Yes, it appeared to me it was a 14 bolt Full Float axle and what clued me in on it's a Cab & Chassis truck, not a pick up. The pick ups in dually got Dana 70 rear axles, the C&C got 14b Full Floaters.

Well, this is turning into a bit of detective work.
Trying to find a diagram of the parking brake cables and part numbers.
What I do know: the pedal is good, everything between there and the drum actuator/lever needs replaced... or fitted. So all cables, couplers, adjusters etc.

Cannot for the life of me figure out the front cable - None of the photos of parts from Advance, Oreilly, Amazon match. The spring is in between the conduit and stud, online parts photos have the spring on the other end.

GM 14 bolt dual rear wheel, 130-131" wheel base.

Which brake system do you have? The piece closest to the ruler looks threaded. If it is, you probably have the top system.

The top one for sure!
Thanks. I've been looking for 1987 R30 parts. (Really need to find a VIN on the chassis if possible - I've read that one might be under the passengers butt on the top of the frame rail.)

Where did you find the diagram?

That image is from the LMC catalog.
Even if you do find the VIN on the frame, it's not going to be a complete VIN.

Some people have found their VIN under the cab on on top of the passenger frame rail. My truck is a K30. I found mine under the bed about midway along the right tank. One way to help narrow down what you have is look at the front frame rails. I noticed you have a 73-80 bumper on it. If you have a frame horn that looks like photo #1 with a rounded edge, it is a 73-80 frame. If it looks like photo 2, where the end of the frame is cut at an angle, you have a 81 and up.

Both of these are 4WD, but it should be similar.
