Hey there redoing the brakes on my burban.

the manual says the following: on #15
You must be registered for see images attach


what does that mean to clinch the upper ears. Here’s the new setup

Means bend the tabs on the brake pad that hook over the caliper tight to the caliper so there’s no slop in the brake pad. Keeps brakes quieter.
Been a minute, or 30 years, since I put brake pads like that on but the principle is the same as newer ones that have spring clips holding them from rattling around.

Has to have been printed in the Haynes series of shop manuals, they talk funny and use words that very few people understand or know the meaning of .........

Aren't those wear indicators supposed to be facing the other way? Or have I been doing it wrong?

I have never seen left and right disc pads.
The wear indicator is always on the same end of both outboard pads in every set I have seen.

What I meant is if you put that pad on the other caliper it would be facing into the rotation of the rotor.

yep, because both outboard pads are the same.
If you switched the pads to the other side, you would end up with the exact same thing.

yep, because both outboard pads are the same.
If you switched the pads to the other side, you would end up with the exact same thing.

If you take that pad, and put it on the outboard side of the other caliper the clip will face down instead of up. So when the truck is rolling forward it would be the first thing the rotor contacts (when the pads wear out) instead of the last.

Im more concerned about whether it's being pushed or pulled and how it makes noise to indicate that the pads are worn out.

Yep.

Most every set of pads I've ever installed on anything had the wear sensors attached to different ends of the pad. So when installed, the sensor can be on the leading end of both sides.
