This is an 83 when they really started to get crazy with hoses and lines.Some vapor canisters are much simpler than the one in the picture. My ‘75 has one hose to the gas tank vent and one hose that used to go to a dedicated vapor port on the Quadrajet. The carburetor port apparently only vented under certain throttle conditions.
I now have mine vented to atmosphere (added a brass fitting on the air cleaner body) because I have a newer Quadrajet. For a while I also tried using a T in the PCV line, but it seemed to lean out the idle a little too much.
I was thinking about something really simple like you describe…vent line to a carbon tank and that’s it..or just some kind of filter on the vent to keep stuff out. Frankly I like the smell of gasoline
