Vacuum fiting question

Can anyone tell me what this fitting is called, I've had shift problems and found someone put electrical tape over it with the trans vacuum line in it. I hooked up a piece of hose to it for now. I'm replacing the modulator tonight and probably should replace the fitting. Thanks

That's where the steel line to your modulator hooks up with a short piece of vacuum hose as a union.

Just for fun, why are replacing the modulator? The one you have isn't even connected. Maybe disconnected because it's bad,pull the hose off it check for fluid in the hose. If the hose is dry reconnect everything and go for a test drive.

Um.... yeah it's connected now, it was connected with tape and my truck was having shift issues. It's leaking I'm replacing it and cleaning the valve and then test driving it.

Is it leaking transmission fluid through the modulator? Connect the fitting with vacuum tubing,see if it shifts okay then. Your vacuum tubing should be very short,just as a seal, the metal tubing should be pushed into,or against the fitting. Vacuum will suck tape or longer runs of rubber tubing shut. Doing 1 of 2 things,trapping vacuum in the modulator,or not providing vacuum to the modulator.
