Backstory....

Having just gotten the wife's Burb back on the road after it's Winter refresh, I drove it to work last week...... and jeebus does it drive like a pig. lol Yeah yeah, lifted square, I don't expect a Cadillac, but dang. It STEERS fine (new Redhead box, all new tie rods, replaced the raised steering arm since the one they had on there was a bit shorter than the Superlift one I put on to flatten out that steering rod) but just rides like garbage and wallows all over the road. The tires likely aren't helping (silly big wheels), but any "whoop" in the road and it's almost a guess as to which direction it wants to go. Steering is positive, but you still gotta row it sometimes. There's a 4in Rough Country lift on there now, which wouldn't have been my choice, but that's how it came to us. Front spring packs are starting to splay out, a couple leafs drifting out to the sides, and the rears aren't a lot better.

Sometime this Summer, the SF 14bolt is come out from under it, so I figured that'd be a perfect time to improve on the suspension. The trick is..... that 14B is getting replaced with a DRW D70HD, new fenders and all. Dually conversion. (Just gonna add the arrowcraft? Dually hub spacers to the front).

It's an around town rig mostly. Haven't towed anything yet, but I don't wanna lose the ability. I fired off an email to ORD today, asking what they had/would suggest for a truck setup like that. I'm sure it won't be cheap, but if I'm gonna bust my knuckles and bleed on the truck, I want to do it once and be happy with the end result.

Anyone running ORD lifts on their trucks, or have a better idea? A 3/4ton Dually Suburban is probably a less common creature lol, but a general consensus on quality vs value will help. It's "only" a 4in, and will wear at most a 35in tire...... but is the switch to crossover steering THAT worth it?

Pic of "Beastie" for attention....

Nice ride. I would go with a different style of army boots though.

I wonder the same thing. It becomes costly by the time you get the 2wd steering box and either a new machined knuckle or find someone who can machine yours. Also I've seen a few YouTube's where the parts they buy give zero clearance for the oil pan.

If it only helps bump steer I'm not sure it's for me. My concern is the 20 degrees of dead wheel that I can't get rid of (it's not the rag joint or steering column).

I assume you mean the wheels? Why does everyone focus on that? Yes I know they're hideous. Some dumb kid bought them, they're what came on it. As I said, it's getting a dually conversion, so it's gonna have SIX different wheels and tires soon enough.

Yeah, it has a BIT of bump steer, but hardly noticeable. That I can manage. Some of it's wandering, at least at freeway speeds, is those silly tires too, tramlining. It just WALLOWS, and rides like garbage. Hard to explain.....

Oil pan interference? I think I saw ORD has two crossover kits? The normal crossover kit, and the high steer option? Guessing the high steer is where the issues lie?

20 degrees of dead wheel!? If it's not in the shaft, gotta be in the steering box, otherwise you'd spot one of the links moving in a very obvious and bad way. lol Maybe try laying on the ground and watch the pitman arm, while you have someone turn the wheel back and forth lock to lock? The "remanufactured" box that was on this one was TRASH. Had my wife turn the wheel for me. Going one direction, I could see the box shaft turn AND slowly retract up into the box. Start turning back the other direction, and it would DROP down on its way back. A rebuilt box from Redhead made a big difference, but I also went though the rest of the steering. (It was BAD when we got it. lol) Swapping the steering arm on the knuckle fixed some less than ideal geometry on that drag link from the pitman arm to the steering arm too. Rag joint, amazingly, has no movement in it.
