how difficult would it be to go from the original v belt to a serpentine belt, do all the brackets match up? Anything I would need specific? While my motor is out I would like to update tht if it’s doable

All brackets, alternator, AC, water pump should swap over. I believe power steering pump can be made to work

It's not difficult at all. You'll more than likely have to drill and tap two holes on the pass side for the bracket. The rest bolts up. I used 96+ bracket setup on mine and it was fairly easy. For the power steering if your 81+ the threads are the same as the serp setup. If yours is older just take the fitting from your stock pump and put it in the new one.

88-95 brackets work with your stock power steering pump no need to buy one, you will need a wp from the serp donor/replacement and the clutch fan or electric fan.

96-01 vortec brackets require use of the ps pump from donor, it moves the AC to the driver side requiring custom hoses to make ac work and the bracket hangs over the valve cover so if you need to remove it they bracket has to be loosed and moved forward. If you dont have a 96-01 vortec 5.7 block do not use the wp it doesnt have the block return like the 88-95 pumps and the fan screws on IIRC.

I’ve been told that the head gaskets need to be replaced for this conversion. Said the Counter Rotation water pump requires blocking a different water jacket port. Does anyone have the skinny on this?

I've never heard that, my setup has been installed over a year now with no issues. I did the full power tour with a/c and it never got over 215* even in traffic with the a/c on max.
