UPDATE: Airsoft bb's as balance beads

I checked the "what have you done" thread and I put these in back on January 1st. I haven't taken the tire off the rim yet but I'm guessing the beads are disintegrating. Driving at 60mph the truck has a slight side to side shake (all tie rods are tight) and when braking there is a large and audible vibration that resonates through the truck that starts about 20mph down to a stop. The tires are still wearing evenly though. Once I get some time this week to pop a bead I'll update on what the bb's look like.


Edit: Also like to add I've put about 8k miles on the truck since then

I'm using regular crossman metal bb's have been for years.

Me too, I've used the steel ones in the past. They make a neat jingly sound when you come to a stop, lol.

Following- I bought Airsoft BBs based on a recommendation from Colonel Mustard.

I just have them sitting in the garage. Haven't bought tires yet for my new beadlocks.

Alrighty, the beads are fine, I saw some slight scalloping in the center of the front tires and decided to rotate the tires. Problem fixed. No more vibration or shaking. Apparently I need to get an alignment though, lol.

That's funny because that's how I tell which tires I did that to. Roll em and listen for the weird noise.Next time I'm using whistles or duck calls for balance, I wonder what that's going to sound like?

I've heard Jeeps around here do that. I'm not sure I want that on a daily though.

I have for years daily on crossman steel bbsI think I'm using 1ounce per 10lb of wheel and tire weight.

That was my Plan for balancing my 53's on my k5.

Only problem is, each tire is 330 pounds, and each rim is roughly 50 lbs

A couple of ounces of lead shot oughta do that.

I use a chart like this. I don't see 53's though. Maybe look up a farm tire chart.

That's only like 2.5 pounds a tire.

That's because you don't put balance beads in street tires. Only knobby offroad tires that are hard to balance.
