Since rust preservation is my primary concern for now and secondary is aesthetics, I wonder if simply shooting a clear from the side marker line down would be the most simple solution...

Dark green for the two tone or when I shoot the whole thing?
YES....... I really like the color now and with the dark green on the bottom it would look great. That truck just looks clean!! You could just leave it alone! But, I'm not gonna write you a check so do it YOUR way

I’m totally happy aesthetically speaking—I’m not that picky.

However, I am a huge stickler for a defect that even has the slightest possibility of becoming rust. There are rock chips on the trailing edge of the fender wells that I’d like to address. As of now, there is no exposed metal. Just trying to keep it that way.

Could be the simplest way to go but you would be locking in whatever defects are on there which might drive you insane.

I feel the earlier squares, 73-80, take to an aftermarket two tone(especially just the lower) paint job better than the later years. Mainly because the trim was completely different. Also the whole frame of the trim or just the top or just the bottom can be used on early models vs the beltline stick on trim or the later trucks.

Feel like adding some stick on trim?

Not really. Maybe a pinstripe. Playing with the idea of cream or off white on the bottom with either a black, dark green on some other color bold pinstripe separating the two.
