I was trying to move a truck with no motor and didn’t put the truck in neutral before pulling it. There was a loud pop and the truck rolls now. The linkage is broken and the gear selector on the side of the trans is able to move by hand and has an audible and physical click. How do I check to see if the transmission is shot without pulling it out. It is a th350

Does the external selector have one or multiple clicks?

My initial thought is that you may have broken the parking pawl inside the trans but if the external linkage to the column broke who knows. Pull the pan and look for bits and pieces?

Possibly just snapped the parking pawl.
