So update, I replaced the distributor with a known good one, and no difference. I got starting fluid and sprayed everywhere there is vacuum. I found a vacuum leak at the carburetor gasket. Replaced gasket. It runs better but still not perfect. My timing light took a dump and my compression gauge too. It read low anyway. I’ll get a timing light and vacuum gauge to set idle and timing. It runs well enough that it shouldn't stall anymore but still does.
It’s weird that it will idle in reverse but not in D, 2 or 1. I was thinking about chocking front tires and jacking up the rear (with jack stands) and putting it in drive. Just to see what happens, it rolls and stops fine when we moved it around.
