Just put on a set of NITTO Terra Grappler LT285/75R17 and they are a tad tall for the rear of the front fenders...: ( But I still like them.

The brakes are Hummer with 4 puck calipers which required larger wheels from factory. I'm still thinking on what I am going to do with the fenders......lift, cut, body lift.......suggestions?

I'm still rockin' the factory 16" wheels so I would not have that problem. Those are a good looking tire from the side. I'll have to see what the tread looks like and what the prices are like. Thanks.

I say suspension lift.Probably 2” would be fine for 285s to have full flex.Looks really nice.Good job

@BKING33 Thanks for the pic. As it turns out I had a 77 C20 dropped off at the shop this morning and it just so happen to have 265/75R16's on it. They look good. I was just looking at some tire recommendation charts. The stock wheels are 6.5 inches wide. The 265/75R16's are recommended for 7.0 - 8.0 inch rims and 285/75R16 are recommended for 7.5 - 9.0 inch rims. From my experiance those charts are guilds not rules so I'm comfortable with 265's, but I think the 285's are a touch wide for the factory rims.

Given all that I think I'm headed for 265/75R16's, BTW @Grit dog the 225/75R16's were common on the 3/4 and 1 ton Dodge vans from the early 90's to the end of production.

@Curt Thanks for the recommendation, I'm pretty set in what I like for tires, but when I have a little more time I'll look up the grappler.

There's no pix? :eek:o_O

Yes, the recommendations say that the 285 is too wide for a 6.5" wide wheel. But it does actually perform well and it wears evenly too.

@89Suburban In a thread a couple years old you mentioned that at the time you were running treadwright A/T's, I'm wondering if you still are, and if not if there is a reason? Thanks.

He sold that rig and got a newer one. @89Suburban

I'd still be curious what he thinks in hindsight of those tires, being as they are remold tires and all. I'm pretty set on the brands I like, so I probably wouldn't get them, I've just always thought they are an interesting and somewhat unique company.

Hey, sorry about the short response earlier I had to finish tasks on the farm before dark. I think it's pretty likely that I'm going to end up getting the General Grabber AT2's in the 265/75R16 because the General's aren't available E-rated in the 285. I've had the General on enough different rigs that while they are not snow tires, they are competent enough in the snow that I would not be afraid to run over the pass with them in the winter time if need be. But if it wasn't for you and the other folks talking about larger sizes I wouldn't have even considered anything wider than 245, I appreciate that.

Thanks, Thats kinda what I have been thinking but I really didn't want to install a lift at all. I like the ride height now and don't do any off road stuff. Just don't like to get stuck in snow, mud, wet grass.

Back to the tire size issue. The factory tires on my 88 Burb were 235/75/SR15 and looked way too small for the fender.

And I've been running 33 X 10.5 R15 for a few years now with no issues at all. They look a lot better in the wheel well also.

Both pictures are of worn out tires so new would be a bit bigger. See above for the LT285/75R17. They are 33.8" diameter and noticeably larger.

I ran 285s on my /01 2500HD on 6.5" rims. Unloaded I kept pressures at 65 in the front and 35 in the rear. When hauling loads or towing my travel trailer (31') I aired up to 70. The one thing I noticed is a lot of trailer sway due to sidewall flex the one time I forgot to air up. Never did that again.

@SirRobyn0 I run Wlidpeaks on my K30. I like them as they are Triple Peak rated for snow.

I've been very impressed with the Grabbers i've got my 4x4..31x10.50/15 -Turns out I drive faster than 8 inches of sidewall allows and will likely never own that big of a tire again. I owned a pair of 33s once and replaced em with these 31s.

The other size of truck tire I put on the 2wd is 255/70/16. (30x10)
That's my add to this debate. Check out 255/70 !

The Blazer is getting ready to wear 275/60/15s. **** it going 28s...that truck hauls ass when it runs.. :headbang:
Just ass though, not 1000 pounds of feed lol. Lots of ass! :rockit:

For a long time now I've been running the General Grabber on everything I own. Well last year I had a blow out on my AWD Jeep because I ran over something in the road. I didn't have the money for 4 new Grabbers and ended up with the Wildpeaks as I got a killer deal on them. I'd definitely say I like them to and I've been happy with them on the Jeep.

Somewhere about 20 years ago I got my first set of BFG AT KO's as you know the tread pattern is near identical to the Grabber AT2. This was on my 2WD dakota. The one thing I did not like was they were terrible on packed snow and ice, I'd always end up having to chain up. I discovered the Grabbers next time I needed tires because they cost less the BFG's, turns out the Grabbers did much better in the snow and I've never looked back. I've run them on everything I own other than the Jeep, when I got the $80 a tire deal on the Wildpeaks last year. I just couldn't turn them down the price. I do not think the Wildpeaks do as well around the farm on grass and light mud as the Grabbers do though.

Not to beat a dead horse... but 33” 10.5 15 or 16 is a perfect fit with stock ride height, no modifications needed. No cutting/no lift
