Throwout bearing

Can some one please explain what the symptoms of a throwing bearing going bad. My v20 with a sm465 has started grinding a little. Seems i have to press the clutch twice to get it to go into gear. It only does it going into second though. Started last time i went camping up in the black hills. All help is greatly appreciated. This is my wood hauling truck and cant afford for it to break down on me.

Could be weakening pressure plate, worn disc or even a worn syncro to 2nd gear. Lower gear syncros take the most abuse, as I've seen in many years of rebuilding manual gearboxes.

So would i be best off finding a used tranny and swapping it in then bothering with the one i currently have. Or do the whole clutch job first? My biggest problem is the down time on the truck. I cant afford to have the tranny crap out on me. Its the only thing i have to haul wood to keep my home warm in the winter. Ive never done a clutch job before so kinda nervous about tackling it myself. Where would the best place to source a used tranny be? Ive checked my local junkyards and they dont have one. I live out near rapid city sd.
