Have has a lot of issues with cheaper line thermostats, usually lasting a year like yours did. Haven't had problems with the more expensive lines at NAPA. Would think AC Delco, Delphi and GM would also be decent but no experience with them.

195 is recommended. did temp keep climbing? my dash gauge shows a lot warmer than the CTS for the computer, especially for the first T-stat open of the day.

Your "assuming" your gauge is accurate?

@SquareRoot Guage has been staying below 210 or drops down at 210. I have noticed recently it climb above 210 a little before it dropes down. Today it was quite high shut down when i got to work check the upper Rad hose it was cold?
@gmbellew the temp did not seem to keep climbing but its only eight miles to work

my dash gauge shows about 230 (measured in head) when the ECM reports about 208-210 at the CTS (by thermostat housing). my 195 deg seems to fully open at about that temp. and then drops and holds 195 pretty well at CTS and the dash gauge reads a lot colder than 195.

A point and shoot thermometer would take a lot of the guesswork out of this problem

I had my truck overheat on a short road trip so I stopped and ran into a small town parts store and bought a new one. I bought the cheapest one they had, I know brain dead right? It lasted for one month and one day when it started running hotter but not into the red. I bought an AC Deco and it's been in there now for a couple months and from what I hear they should last for years. Spend the money.
