I have a 1982 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 that I purchased as a project it has a 305 with a TH350C unfortunately the trans went out. My long term goal is to drop a 4BC Cummins diesel in this truck I would like to keep the auto trans setup, I have heard that the TH350C is not as strong as the TH350. I was wondering if I could have my TH350C converted to a TH350 and what mods would I need to do to hold up to the torque of the diesel BTW the diesel only puts out 150 hp or so. I was going to rebuild the trans then run it for a year or so until I was ready to do the engine swap. Will this work any suggestions ?
Thanks Kerry

You can't convert the TH350C into a regular TH350 as the cases are different, I believe.

However, you can replace your TH350C with a TH350 with no problems. You would just leave the TCC Connector unplugged.

Some major differences I found:

Some other differences you would have to dig though my thread to find...
Cases are not the same. No wiring header on the plain vs the -C. Input and converter are different. Clutch pack counts are different. Best to start over with a good core. If you start around page 56 of my thread is about where I started with the trans. This is a good read for beefing up certain parts, might just want to avoid the hard-hitting race shift mods...

This has good info for beefing up a TH350 too...
