I'm getting ready to do final assembly and during inspection, found what appears to be a plug in the valve body area of the case (pics below). I haven't been able to find a picture of a stock case to determine if that should be there or not.

If it needs to go, what would be the recommended method? Thanks guys!

Looks like someone may have modified that unit for manual shifting. What does the governor look like? Is the manual low control valve blocked in the vb? How about the kickdown/downshift valve?

Yes, it has been heavily modified for manual shifting. There was no governor at all in there. The valve body has been extensively modified as well (I ended up getting a different one because I couldn't make sense of it).

Can the plug be removed?

You should be able to either drill through it (be very careful if electing to do to this) or perhaps punch it out with a drift by collapsing it on one side.

Do you still have the valve body that was modified?

Yes, I still have the modified valve body. It's currently disassembled.

Nice, thanks @quicksilver702. Reach out to me off-line if you run into any problems with the build...Since we are in the same city (I'm in Providence which is NW Vegas) I can help, if need be.

I wanted to post a resolution of this plug removal to complete the record.

I carefully (and at low speed) used a 1/8" drill to initially create a hole in the plug. I figured I could use a cape chisel to collapse it after drilling out the full center of the plug (about 1/4" inch or so in diameter).

For the second hole, I stepped up to a 5/32" bit. This did the trick and the plug came loose easily on the bit.

Pictures are below for reference. Normally, nothing goes this smoothly as I am constantly visited by Mr. Murphy. Thanks for the guidance @NickTransmissions!
