Im looking at buying a th350 from a late 70s nova concours and was wondering if theres any differences other then the shorter tail. Its hooked to a straight 6 also.

Its been scrapped since before i worked there.... ive got more pics if anyone would like to see. It kills me having to cannibalize it!! I do hate 350's but if i need it in a pinch or want to sell it... i know theyre tough to seek, ask me how i know. Plus the fluid was clean. Id like to buy the straight 6 to but im unsure

The drum pistons will be a bit taller so each clutch pack will have 1 less clutch. Otherwise, all the same as a V8 Passenger Car Th350's. If you can find v8 clutch drum pistons or have someone with a lathe cut them down, then you can fit an extra clutch and steel in the drums. Drums are also the same. Only difference is the clutch pistons are taller, that's it.

I’m not sure when Hydromatic started replacing some of the thrust washers with bearings, there is also some dimensional differences in the drive shells between the early and later productions. They also started using plastic accumulator pistons in the later years as a cost savings. The plastic pistons are junk, eventually they crack.

other than that, they are basically the same. What was mentioned about the clutch pistons is correct. If you have access to a brake lathe, I have cut them on those before.

Are you sure it's a TH350 behind a six cylinder engine, and not a THM200 or THM200C? I have no idea if the 200-series were even used in late 70s Novas, but I'd certainly want be sure that you're getting a 350.

As far as differences between various TH350s, I doubt there would be anything beyond the torque converter, and possibly modulator and governor.

A 250 looks like a 350, but has a band adjusting screw on the drivers side (I think,), the 200 is a one piece case without a removable extension housing.
