So I just replaced my water pump yesterday and now my temp gauge doesn't seem to work. The needle never even gets to the starting line and when I'm coming to a stop the needle will jump around like crazy until I'm at a complete stop. I'm not sure what's going on as it worked fine before. I know nothing is overheating but it'd be nice to know what temp I'm running while I'm cruising. It's a 77 350 with no ac if that info is needed. Is it maybe just the gauge or possibly a loose wire or ground?

Check the wiring carefully, the temp gage reads resistance to ground, so if the connection to the sensor is dirty it will effect the reading. Make sure the motor is grounded to the frame is grounded to the body is grounded to the battery is grounded to the motor. Most of the time when I see a weird electrical problem, like the gage reading changing when the brake lights are on, it ends up being a poor connection to ground somewhere.
