There’s a good chance that there was some corrosion on a terminal that when you unplugged and plugged back the connector back in it made a better connection- most of these trucks have been in all kinds of weather conditions- and you never know if the P.O. had a trailer with bad lights overheating the tail light circuit, that will add to the problem
