Tailgate panel black outline

My aluminum tailgate panel (‘87 GMC) is in very good shape, but the black outline around the perimeter of the panel is missing in a couple places (see photo). Is the black border painted on or is it black tape/decal?

I’d like to just patch the small missing areas, but want to do it similarly to what is original.

I believe it’s painted on. But perfect application for some black pinstripe.
Either that or tape it off perfectly straight and re paint?

It is paint. I would use some steel wool (maybe 000) to remove as much as possible then get some pin stripe as Grit Dog mentioned.

I believe the original was painted on or maybe a black anodizing. I used 3/8 inch black label making tape and it came out looking great.
