Switching to aluminum wheels

I just picked up a set of factory aluminum wheels for my ‘87 K5. A friend told me that if I use the original lug nuts that came with the steel wheels, they will “eat” into the aluminum because the nuts shoulder is too small. Do I need a special lug nut for the aluminum wheels, if so does anyone know where I can get them? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

You don't need a special lug nut, just a "bulge seat" type. If you have steel rally wheels and not basic steel wheels, you already should have the correct lug nuts. The basic steel wheels used just a super basic lug nut that was nothing more than a normal fine-thread, 1/2" nut with a small taper on one side.

All that matters is that the lug's seat area is big enough that the hex shoulders don't gouge the lug seat in the rim.
