Strut Compressor Tool

I might have to do a strut job on friends car and I was what is safest tool for compressing the coil spring.

I personally like the top one. It looks a little safer to me. I never liked using the ones like the bottom set. They make me a little nervous. JMO

I used the bottom one too. I was taught to crank little at at time on each otherwise the spring would fly off. Least the bottom one has pins on it to help hold the spring in place.

I would agree with animal that top one is easier to use.

As far as safety goes there is always a chance they can pop out, But Dave even the bottom ones have safety rods that keep the strut from popping out. I would still get the Top one over the bottom though. rent the one autozone has, why buy one if you are only doing it once?

Then again if you got the cash buy one, then you'll have it just in case.

I got a huge one, it's what shops use, big old huge square deal that goes on the outside.

This will be the 3rd time doing it. The first 2 times I rented the tool from autozone which was the same cost as buying it new from them.

yea I know that, that's why or how they do it. You buy it, use it, bring it back for refund, or if you don't bring it back, then you just bought it.

How do you get the top one to compress?
