stepside bed

Just checked the LMC catalog, they have a 218 piece bed bolt kit for a shortbed stepside. Probably 109 bolts and 109 nuts?

I plan to take off the original angles on the sides of my bed since they are rested through in a few places, and replace them. Has anyone out there done this? Did you just drill out the spot welds? The angle covers that LMC sells just bolt over the originals, but I don't want to leave that rusty metal there if I don't have to.
