The steering box on my blazer is still very tight and is only leaking from the large end cap so id really like to avoid tearing it down for a full reseal or having to purchase a new steering box. I've got easy access to the punch access hole to get the retainer clip out.

Anyone who has performed these rebuilds, do you think I have any chance in getting only that cap off without a full teardown or are they pretty well stuck in there?

The end cap I'm referring to:

I’ve done it but it was with an aftermarket end cap so it wasn’t stuck etc.

The only place I found the end cap o-ring was in a reseal kit from O’Reilly’s. It also had the retainer ring which was a bonus for me because mine seemed to have lost its tension in the cap swap.

Pull the snap ring, turn the sector shaft i think clockwise, it'll push the cap off.

The o ring can be had from (as mentioned above) oreillys

Couldn't get the cap off by going stop to stop or with glue and string. I just started the truck for a moment and the cap removed itself. Time to go source my seal kit

Mine leaks might do this upgrade. Although mine turns really easy.

Minor corrosion on the sealing surface and a hardened o-ring caused the leak. Managed to snag an o-ring from work, its a 3 1/2 x 3/16" or P/N: M83248-1-236. With a little rework the original clip ring was able to be reused.
