So I have a 168 tooth flexplate and I can get the truck to Crank for a few times like it should but then it's starts skipping teeth on the flexplate. Any help would be great. See photos

Now that you confirmed you have a 168 tooth flex plate and a 350 Let's back up to the history on the starter. How did we get to this? Replacing starter? Did you get the vehicle without a starter? Did the old one work good till it didn't and the new one is crap?

We brought a new crate 350 from GM and are doing a full rebuild with all new parts. We have been working on this for a few years now and the old starter was no good

Try to find an original starter for a 168 flexplate and mount it. If the original starter fits the after market starter is the issue. Shiming the starter at the outer bolt will move the gear closer to the flex plate but that is normally only used for fine adjustment of the gear gap.
Is the block of the crate engine new or remanufactured?

Maybe you have the wrong starter bolts. There is two different sizes. Some blocks take metric bolts and some take standard bolts. They have to be the knurled ones that are the right ones for that block. Most likely the newer blocks take the metric ones.

If you still have the old starter, I have had good luck using the front of the old starter on the new one. They always line up. (so far)

That was with O E starters we swapped nose cones all the time, used to be able to buy just the nose cone,I'd tell you why but it would just start arguments. Anyway looks like he has an aftermarket replacement starter,I doubt an O.E. nose cone would fit. First thing I'd do is go back to O.E. starter and correct bolts.
