Hello everyone. I have a 1990 suburban. Went out to start the other day and it started then died. Went to crank and and it kinda seemed to start so I feathered the gas pedal and it kept it running. After about 5 minutes it was fine. This this the second time it's done it. I have not idea where to start. I just changed the distributor on it bc it was bad. And found a shorted wire for my ac. Before both those things I was confident on driving it anywhere. Now I'm kinda nervous about taking the family outta town in a few weeks. Anyone help is greatly appreciated.

Fuel delivery. Incorrect choke operation can do that too.

Does thing still have TBI? Did the problem start after the new distributor, and or your wiring repair. If so put the wiring back like it was and see what happens. What distributor did you put in it?

Coolant temp sensor? Unplug it when it does the problem and see if it changes and runs better.

Feathered the gas or gave it a lot of pedal to get it to start? Pedal down is "clear flood mode". Could be a leaking injector or something if you had the pedal down.

Well may have another issue. Got to work and ac running. Truck out of the blue starts acting like it was to die. Finally popped a check engine light. Got my reader out. And it's got a code 42. Could the module be bad after a month or 2?

could be module. could be a wiring harness issue, could be stray voltage from a cracked distributor cap, could be plug wire sitting on ICM wire. but code 42 means an issue in the EST (white) wire or the bypass (tan/black) wire (open, short, seeing voltages it shouldnt) or the connector at the ICM or the module usually.
