Stalls when pressing gas too fast

And run some high quality fuel system cleaner through a few tank fills. It won't hurt. But first, check and fix what they said.
Am I able to remove the fuel filter without removing the air cleaner? Or is that a bad idea?

No you need to remove the air cleaner. Don't go monkeying on tightening the 1" it'll strip the carb threads. It needs that gasket that's on it so don't toss it. Get a new one if you can. It needs to be tight to stop the leaks.

You're kidding me, right? Do you know how to remove the air cleaner?
I know how to remove it. I wanted to know if I could do it without removing the air cleaner. I am just starting out working on my truck though and trying to learn so I'm not going to know everything right away.

Anyway. I got the 5/8" and 1" wrench around the two nuts. I am trying to loosen the smaller one but it will not come loose. It almost looks like the threads are backed out a bit. If I turn the wrench with a lot of Force it moves slightly but then bounces back towards me. Almost feels like it's on a spring. But it will not come loose.

This is where quality tools pay off. Cheap wrenches often don't fit snugly and can round out a line fitting. If the fitting is real tight, you may need a better wrench, and/or a line wrench to get it broke free without ruining the flare nut.

I got it off. I just needed to take a break and wrench a little harder. I was using some nice Craftsman wrenches. I just wasn't turning hard enough. Here's the little rascal. Looks pretty bad to me. But only time (and a bit of money) will tell if this bad boy was my problem.

Why is the new one so much longer? I looked it up and lots of people have the long filter. Is the short one right? Will both work?

Looking at your pics the short one should be the right one. Was there a spring behind the old filter? The spring keeps the filter in place, tight to the big nut you took out of the carb.

There was a spring. How come some people have the longer one though? Even the computer at advance Auto parts said it was the right filter. Are they just interchangeable or something? I don't even think they have a shorter one.

BTW just because a stupid computer says it's the right part, doesn't mean it is.

Wrong filter. You need the short one. If in doubt, get the carb number off the driver's side of the carb, then should get the correct one from the auto parts store.

I went out and got this one from AutoZone. It's got one of those paperish gaskets which is fine, but what is this rubber black thing with a spring? Am I supposed to have one of those?
