Hey guys! Chevy newb here... Bought a 79 short bed k10 about 9 months ago. Daily driver right now but long term plan is hot rod. I'm no mechanic but I want to learn and that is what it's all about. Anyway I'm sure this will be an easy answer for someone but my truck makes a sort of intermittent squeal when it's hot... Not the truck, the weather. It's 95 today and about every 15 minutes the truck squeals for a second and goes quiet. I drove the truck 5 hours ago but it's still doing it. I've never heard anything like it before and it's kind of freakin me out - can anyone tell me what it is/if I should be doing something about it? Thanks :).

If you're running the air conditioner, maybe it's the belt squeaking when the compressor cycles on. When it does it, try spraying a little WD40 on the belt and see if it stops.

Thanks - But I'm sure that's not it, it does it when the truck isn't running and my air con unit isn't even hooked up.

Weird right? It's been doing it for a while and doesn't seem to be a problem but I'd like to know what the deal is.

Weird, Maybe the radiator cap releasing some pressure?

If it does it while the engine isn't even running and is affected by heat the only things I can think about are something expanding with pressure. Coolant was already mentioned, maybe gas tank releasing pressure because the fuel expanded or turned to vapor.

Yeah pressure being released sounds like it makes sense. I don't -think- it's from the radiator, I had the hood open trying to find it and it sounded like it was coming from deeper. Gas tank sounds like a good theory. It doesn't seem to be a problem but I'd like to know what it is! I'll still try to get a vid of it posted up, hasn't been hot enough since I posted this.

If you have ever been around motorcycles, the gas caps tend to squeal when it's hot out. The caps have a built-in vent tube to let out excess pressure build up in the gas tank.

Yeah found it yesterday... It started doing it while I was driving, then I realized I was pretty low on gas so I put some in and it stopped doing it.

Thanks for your help everyone! It was freakin my poor neurotic brain out haha.
