Guys, I am installing all aftermarket gauges and I was putting a new speedo cable in when I saw a small box attached to the driven gear, it has offset connections for mounting on the trans and the other is for the cable. What is this and do I need it with aftermarket speedometer? Try to ignore the scratches on the column, I'm not finished yet.

As long as the new speedo is still a mechanical one - cable driven - that is needed.

It is an adapter for a different gear ratio that is OE equipment.

According to Equus gauges, it is called a transducer and is not needed with their speedometer.
