I have worked on old Porsches for about 30 years, professionally for about 15 until I threw in the towel. Mostly 356 and older 911 and 912 models. Here are some pictures of some of my favorites.

Love the green one!

Being a VW driver, I hear the "My uncles, cousins, neighbors, boss bolted a Porsche engine in his car and it was a mean machine."

That or "Why are you building a acvw engine? Just bolt a Porsche engine in there, it will be a ripper and way more powerful."

Those are some nice cars for sure though.

My grandpa had a Porsche 356, back in the day.
After he died, it got given to a relative in Germany, who if I remember correctly, brought back to the Porsche factory in Germany, and had it fully restored.

That's really cool! My dad has a friend (Jack Lewis, Jack Lewis Enterprises out of Norcross, Ga) that restores and races air-cooled Porsches too so that's what I cut my teeth working on. Mostly 911s but a few 912s, 356s, Bugs and Busses too. This Bobby Allison IROC RSR tribute is my favorite car we've ever done

964 rebodied as a 993 for the '96 24hrs of Daytona

The previous car when it was still a 964, they painted it black to go race in Japan

This is the last car I really helped with, a real '67 911S SWB that was imported by a doctor and Jack eventually ended up with it. We cut ALL of the floors, rockers, heater boxes, trunk pan and even some of the engine cradle out fixing rust. He's run it in the LaCarrera a couple times (rolled it on it's side once) and now uses it in SCCA and NASA offroad rallies

Catbox, the Viper Green 911 was a really fun car to work on. It is a 1972 with a mildly warmed over 2.7 liter engine. Just enough power to be entertaining but not so high strung it needed to be constantly fiddled with.

My cousin Den always had a couple of them out in Sacramento. I'd be lying to you if I can remember what year and model they were. '60's vintage I believe.

He recently passed away. I'm not sure what became of his cars.

TotalyHucked We didn't do many race cars, but the shop across the lot's business was about 90% prepping Porsche track cars. 90% of our business was restoration and repair of 356s. We won lots of trophies, the the black 1951 in my original post won it's class at Amelia Island and sold for 7 figures. I really dig the IROC RSRs, I sat in one once but have never worked on one. This car was insane, all carbon fiber except for the tub. Twin turbo with full Motec engine management. Owner built it just for club racing, it didn't fit in any sanctioning body's classes.

Great pictures! I had an air cooled VW shop for years in the 90's and owned over 20 VW's over the years before I got into muscle cars and trucks.
I also did some interior/electronics work for John James Racing here in the Phx area when I was with Unique Car Audio for 15yrs.

I love classic Porsches. I hope to own one someday but I’m getting old so the hope is slowly fading.
