Bastards got me a few years ago, a 16ft enclosed trailer, cost 4.000+ to replace it. I am still looking at trailers as they go down the road.

Current solution is to store the trailer at my brother in laws place. Well off the road and behind some buildings with his four other trailers. Thieves would have to deal with a German Shepherd with a very intolerant disposition.

A guy had told me once, and I thought it was a good idea, to engrave your driver license #, or social sec #, or your full name and bd on top or bottom of one of the axle tubes to where someone won't see it at a glance to remove it or grind it smooth. In the event your trailer does get stolen and you think you found it or need to prove it it's yours, then you can tell law enforcement what to look for to positive ID it. There are so many that look alike and the stolen ones usually end up painted but sill you can sometimes recognize something about it to know it's yours.

This is one device I have on my car hauler. Its not perfect, but it helps. BTW, this is a stock photo.
I also have the BullDog hitch locked with a device by Master Lock that makes cutting or sawing in two very difficult.

Thieves are opportunist's...make them work a little more then just leaving the trailer out in the open without a lock. Hitch coupler lock and chain it to something strong. I have five trailers and every one of them is locked AND I have security cameras recording the trailers. Dont let yourself become another easy victim. Remember thieves are stupid, thats why they dont have honest jobs.

Thieves hit my brother in law a couple years ago. I have always kept mine locked inside my metal building. It’s a large building with roll up doors so it fits easily. Yea it takes up some space but it’s secure and out of the weather too.

Inside my building I used post hole diggers and dug a hole 18" deep, took a piece of 3/4 rebar and bent it into something that kind of resembles a huge paperclip, put it in the hole and filled it with concrete so only a couple inches of the loop was above the ground. Since the lock on the building aint much I run a piece of cable through the loop, through the frame of the 4wheeler, back through the loop, etc till all the slack is used up and the lock ends up in a hard to access spot between the engine and frame. I could only do one wrap through the loop and frame if I wanted to but anything I can do to delay them or make them make more noise trying to steal it gives me more opportunity to supply them with a lead injection.

Main purpose for this trailer is to haul a **** mower if/when it needs to go in servicing or just be moved from one location to another. Goose neck might be a little overkill.

Big disadvantages to 5th wheel or you mean gooseneck since 5th wheels are for camp trailers only. It's sad someone has to do gooseneck cuz of thieves, but they get those too. It's real bad in OK cuz we're not required to tag and license trailers, so there's no license plates required.

Paint a couple of these black and mount them in places where they would be likely to grab it when trying to hook it up. Might make them think twice about doing it again. Just don't forget where they are when you try to hook it up.

Isnt that the kind of thing that ends up getting you sued? Like the idea of a thief breaking into your house and stepping on the bear trap in your living room and making YOU pay for damages?
