not if its got coolant in the oil. Im not saying don't ever buy a 6.2 but don't pay one cent for one that has coolant in the oil.

you have to change the modulator in your tranny and a shift kit wouldn't hurt either and definitely needs a cooler

Boy, all I can say is 6 mpg seem really low, even with a 454. Usually, I would expect around 10 mpg with that setup, unless you are running at 90mph, and dumping the throttle at every intersection.. ONly time I ever had a truck that got that bad, was with a truck running 4.56 gears with small tires, and a bad leak on the fuel line after the fuel pump!

And, as for the claim of a 350 with 700r4 getting 25 mpg, I wanna know more about this..

I had Edelbrock performer intake, and carb on my 86 Grand PRix, with 700R4, and never got better than 18mpg if I was LIGHT on the gas, was always too tempting to use the "go" pedal.. With any 4x4 squarebody truck I've ever owned, I was happy if it got 12-14

What cam you running? I've never heard of a square getting that good, even with diesel.

Yea I've been calculating right at 6-7 mpg ALL around-town driving. I never get on the highway (bad tires) and I only live 3 miles from work. It runs like a champ but I could use the engine in my Camaro, and I have always wanted a diesel, thats what is prompting all this. Do you guys think a $200 offer on a J code 6.2 from 1990 with coolant in the oil would be too much? I doubt he would take it but would it be worth a shot?

just a stock 85 hd 4 bolt 350. tires are a little tall for 3.42 gears and I actually have my rebuilt quadrajet on there still gonna change to the 1806 next weekend. I have an Accell high energy 100,000 volt coil and 8mm wires and a 10 bolt rear end still

OMG Stop with this coolant in oil its sounds crazy, all 6.2 diesels dont just go around blowing head gaskets, but yes i think 200would be a low offer 500 would be better ive seen though crate 6.2 go for alot more, shoot i think those engine crates are worth a few hundred alone

I had the exact same set up but mine had two less cylinders 3.42 gears 700r4 rebuilt rochestor and I was getting nowhere near 25mph

I have a really stiff throttle spring on mine and I have already busted my 10 bolt twice so maybe I am a little light on the throttle

ive own four 6.2 j code diesels and ive owned a total of 8 sqaures in my 22 years of living, i havent learned much but what ive have learned is there is five bull shitters for every one person who has been there done that
