I have had difficulty finding a shortbed fleetside steel floor. None of the normal vendors (LMC, Brothers, Classic Industries) has it. They say it has been discontinued. Jegs allowed me to order it but so far it has been backordered for over 6 months.

Is it possible to put a wood floor in it? I have seen a limited number of kits but they say it is intended to be placed over the steel floor. My current bed is fully rusted through in several places.

I haven't been able to find a used bed from a boneyard within 200 miles. Are there any other options?

I've looked at all of the restoration sellers I know. No one seems to have anything. How difficult would it be to put a wood floor in a shortbed? Are there premade cross sills that would fit?

Idk...I have seen pre made wood floors for stepside beds, but not fleetsides. I opted due to shipping fees, to re-skin my entire bed with 14 gauge steel sheet. It smoothed out the bed, reinforced it and covered all of the previous damage.

Just a thought as another option for you.

What's the problem with driving over 200 miles for clean parts?

I just drove to Dallas this weekend from New Orleans for mostly clean sheet metal. Sometimes the longer drives saves you many, many hours later on.

Exactly. There's got to be a way that we can come up with some sort of relay delivery. Distance just kills to many good deals here for people who have good stuff to sell and people needing it.

For one, when guys are making runs like you made, we need to post up about it a day or two, even more if possible. Maybe you can carry something for someone else going that direction, or pick up something else for someone else coming back your way. Hopefully the others not making the run but getting parts can at least pitch in for part of the gas to make the trip. Gotta be a way to figure it out. Of all the **** talking worthless threads we have, mabye we should start a parts travel thread.

The guys that live along or near I-20/I-40/I-70 are the ones who can make this happen.

Those interstates are the life-blood of getting solid parts East.

I wouldn't have minded loading up some extra parts, but I live in New Orleans which is kind of an 'end of the road' type city.

I totally agree. I was going to say I 40 and I 70, but I 20 too. Any of those East West thoroughfares will work. Then someone else can run the North South routes like I-5, I-35, and whatever runs the East Coast. Seems it could be done twice a year. Once about mid Spring and again at toward the end of Summer or early fall. Really, anytime would fine but I'd avoid it in the heart of winter, especially I-70.

Don't forget about the I-10.....I come across tons of square parts here out West. I would love to see a parts run thread for those in need of the crucial rust free cabs, beds and fenders. For those members that are stricken by the rust belt parts...this would be a life saver (or at least a square saver).
