I have a 40x40 and will be putting in a mini split next year. I wanted it this year but put the money elsewhere.

I have helped and electricion friend of mine install several mini splits lately and everybody loves them. They are efficient for electric heat and the new ones are very quiet. I have a wood stove in my insulated 30x40 pole barn. No gas at my place and our house is total electric. My bill is high enough so I didn't do the mini split.

I built a double 55-gallon drum wood stove for mine, but honestly I mostly run my huge Val 6 that burns diesel which I fill with agricultural diesel.

My shop is big and drafty enough that I don't worry much about fumes, and that thing will get to cooking after about 20 minutes even in below 0 temps! Greatly extends my working season.

I do it all, electric, propane and kerosene. Propane or kerosene to get it to a suitable temp and maintain with 240v electric but it's only .09 cents a Kwh here but I'm only doing roughly 500 sq ft.
