Sealing water pump fittings

Hey guys, new water pump installed and the threaded pipe nipple is leaking. I put pipe thread on it. Any suggestions on an alternative? I'm thinking about using pipe dope. Wonder if that's an option that will be ok. . I'm thinking I'd not want that to get in my coolant system. It works on fuel pipes for sure.

I like pipe dope more than thread tape. Permatex has some good stuff too, I always prefer 3m though.

Agree, we used tape and it always leaked. Used pipe dope on it. When we installed chrome fuel line it leaked as well and Edelbrock recommends dope on the fitting and its dry now..

I have opted for the pipe dope for a long time. I use it on ga, water, air, anything threaded that needs sealing.

I opt for the white one with teflon.

That one does not solidify and is removable.

The pipe thread/tape/teflon tape sometimes if it is not labele Made In USA it is typically chineesium junk.... like one of my old journeyman used to say, "It is about as worthless as boobies on a boy dog!"

Imho, pipe tape has no place in an automotive application. Often no sealant at all will work better than using pipe tape.

If you don't have any pipe dope handy, RTV works too.
