But most of us have these squares as toys. Unless your daily driving yours (you can still plan a repair for a day your don't go anywhere or a weekend) there should be no reason your that pressed for time. It is hard for me to wait on it though. If I can wait I do. And your correct, no shop waits over night or all working day to torque the bolts and then the next day to fill with fluids.

I never wait because there's no need for me to wait. Experience has told me that it really isn't needed.

There may be a "correct" way to do it but I've always done the same. Use a bit of silicone to hold the gasket in place, goop the ends, torque the intake, fill it and go. Never had any leaks or other issues but I haven't had the same motor for any serious length of time.

No sir.
Installation calls for dry gaskets.

For Almost as long as I can remember, I have used Permatex brush-on gasket sealant with damned near EVERYTHING both Professionally and in my driveway.

Having absolutely no reason ever except i'm paranoid. It's about three bucks a can and sold everywhere.

A certain staple in any mechanic's repertoire..

There is no downside to this stuff.

Hope this helps!

Dry fit the manifold with intake gaskets in place and check your gap at the China wall. Compare that gap to what your rtv says it’ll span. If the gap is too much, you’ll need the China wall gaskets plus rtv.
I check out the thickness required and will make a 'dam' of Right Stuff and let it set up overnight at least, then hit it again when I actually set the intake down.

I also thinly butter Right Stuff on the gasket, both sides, around the water ports. If the water ports have any rust pitting it gets a tad more buttered on.

These are great points... I would like to add that the instructions for "The Right Stuff" indicate that you run the bead of RTV, then install the part within 5 minutes, while it is still wet. The instructions also state that it seals instantly and that you torque it and put it back in service immediately. This is why I use "The Right Stuff" almost exclusively. At work, we are supplied with Loctite 515 and 518 anaerobic sealant, as well as RTV. It has been my experience that most RTV failures have been caused by not cleaning the materials sufficiently before application. FWIW

Lots of acetone to clean the mating surfaces. That's what I used anyhow.
