Honestly, the china freight cabinet is kinda the goto for a low buck home use deal. Most of the people I know who have a cabinet have one of those with some combination of mods done to it.

My buddy had one and got rid of it because after 5 seconds of use he couldn't see a darn thing.
Wrong medium...??

Do those have a dust collector? I'm thinking not. Best thing you could do is cut a hole in the top and insert a shop vac hose in there to draw out dust. But be forewarned put a prefilter on the vacuums filter or the fine dust particles will kill the motor in the shop vac.

I have an Eastwood media blaster cabinet and I run a shop vac to it that has a HEPA filter in it. Works really well, and the cabinet seems to be of pretty decent quality.

Or compressed air and and dust exhaust hose?
I got lots of compressed air but it doesn't smell too safe.

If you're willing to spend a little more money, TP Tools has some really nice blast cabinets in various sizes. They come with the vacuum for the dust, but your air compressor will play a big role in these models (2 stage would be best if you need to run it longer for bigger parts). My dad has one and it works extremely well. (I keep trying to talk him into setting it up at my house ;))

Spend a few bucks and use Glass Beads for blasting (Cleaner with less fine particle dust)

I like Black Beauty myself.

YUP, I think that is the same stuff We used at the DOT for blasting snow plows before a fresh paint job.
Made of slag from some sort of a process of welding or some such.

Leftover from melting rock to extract metals. Like melted black glass.

Suggest taking a look at Craigslist. Several years ago I found an older unit, with a dust collecting system pretty cheap. The guy (selling) was upgrading to a larger unit. The only thing i had to address was getting new nozzles for the Trinco gun

I'm not sure where he put it but @Mr Clean did some mods on a HF unit and he seems pretty happy with it and doing some powder coating with good results.

I built one out of plywood, big enough to fit a motorcycle frame in. Dust collection took awhile to get right, then experimented with the right light in the cabinet for a bit, now have LED bulbs in there and see real good. Never made wheels on mine, only regret because it's a beast to move around. I like using glass bead in mine, but will also use walnut shell media, so far that removed the least metal on softer stuff, but still gets the paint and grime off intakes.
