Since I switched from a manual trans with 3 on the tree, I put a 78 model auto steering column in it. The manual trans had the reverse switch mounted on the trans. I now want to hook up the reverse lights. I have no wires to do this, so can I just make a power source and hook up to the switch that is mounted on the steering column?

Yeah, that's all GM did. You won't have to spend much on the wiring from the fuse block to the switch either. They're about a foot apart:

I am actually doing the opposite. My truck came with an auto, and now has a manual. So can I cut the wires to that switch on the column and wire it into the switch on the transmission? Sorry, not trying to derail your thread.

That would work. I did the same thing on 89 f body when switching from auto to manual.

I think I read on the wiring schematic in my trusty Hanes manual that the green wire is the wire that goes to the reverse lamp. Is that correct? So in this case, I would need a 12v source to the switch and then the green wire from the switch to the lamps. Correct?

Do you know if that blue wire in the picture above is the power source from the fuse block???

Should be coming from fuse location #2 (turn/bu)
