Anybody run into an issue with the Jeep shaft splined end not fitting onto the GM steering box? Happened to me, bought an XJ shaft, shortened it and it won’t go on. Then I broke out the caliper and the Jeep shaft splines opening is at least 0.1” smaller than the splined shaft on my K20 steering box. Didn’t bother to test it when I took the old shaft off because it seemed like everyone was doing this mod without any issues.

Yeah, something’s fishy here. More specifically, was it the correct year range Cherokee?

Yep it was an XJ. Just went back to double check but it was from a 1989 Cherokee. Wikipedia tells me XJ’s are cherokees from 1983-2001. I didn’t think it needed to be from a specific year XJ?

That year is fine. It should work. I would carefully attempt to perform the aforementioned suggestion.

It’s a virgin it needs exercised a bit.
Heh heh.

I did try to heat it up and pry it apart a lil to get some more space but it didn’t seem to move much at all. I’ll put my big boy panties on and give it another go

Could you post some pictures of the shaft? Just of the shaft itself and the ends?
