I just thought I'd share my most recent purchase. I don't know how this will go over on a Chevy forum but here goes...

We took a trip to New England last week, (right before the historic monster snow storm hit!) and while there we rented a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. At first I was like, ugh, a car....Because I hate cars. I am a strong truck and SUV person, and more-so Chevy person. I had a 2001 silverado that was all tricked out, and I totalled it and recieved $11,501 for it, and it was paid off, so I put it in the bank. I had riginally wanted another newer truck but couldnt see paying 20K plus for a 3-4 year old truck. So in the meantime I drove my 85 C-20, with the freshly rebuilt motor and new trans, but its a 3 speed 400 lol with 4.10's and gets about 11 mpg.

At 20 gallons per tank I was getting less than 200 miles a tank. With my 72 mile a day commute I was filling up every couple days. KILLING me in gas. My wife has a 2005 suburban that gets 15mpg....

Anyways, I LOVED the hyundai. Great room, drove great, sound system great, great acceleration...but I was like "Its still a hyundai-lol". So I looked them up, and turns out they redid their whole line of cars, engines everything. The 2012 Sonata has better mpg than Accord, Camry and Altima, at 35 mpg! The best safety rating, more cabin room than honda, and at base price $19,500...Can you beat that? The rest sure cant and there isnt a fullsize American car that can either for the price.

Went and looked at them 4 days after I got back...ended up pulling the trigger on one in the lot. 2012 GLS, pretty much base model with a few extras, power seats etc. Came with tint already. Walked out at 22K....for an extra 9 bucks a month I got the 10 years/100,000 mile warranty which is crazy. They filled it up Thursday, and I just filled back up today, I got 467 miles to the 16 gallons I used (it has an 18.5 gallon tank).

So basically I save about 400 dollars a month ingas, and that covers the note and then some!

Heres a bad pic of the one in Massachusetts I drove for 5 days

They aren't bad cars when they are still newish. Make sure to unload it by the time it hits about 90K. And don't expect the dealer to cover much under warranty if it breaks, they consider just about everything to be a "wear item".

YOU ARE GOING TO HELL FOR THIS!!!! :flamingdevil:
Just kidding 1Low! I'm actually a strong lobbyist for Hyundai. I guess I tend to root for the underdog, but I like their formula for success.
-Build a good car without cutting corners on the important stuff
-Stand behind your product
-Make your customers feel like they got more than they paid for.

Yeah, their pre-2000 stuff was pure crap. They learned from their mistakes and continue a progress and improve. I've always been a Nissan fan. I've bought 2 Maximas and a G35. If I had to buy a car today, what would it be? Probably a Hyundai Genesis.

Thanks guys. I bought this car on the fact that their customer satisfaction rating is sky high, and the fact that they actually good looking cars now. Of course, driving one for 4 days thru the hills of New Hampshire and Massachusetts getting 35 mpg average was a huge factor in the decision also.

If I need a truck, I have one. Until then I get almost 500 miles to the cars 18.5 gallon tank, versus the trucks 180 miles to a 20 gallon tank. Plus I have the agility and quickness of a car, and now I can drive my 2 year old around, as her mom wouldnt let me carry her in the square. No LATCH system for the carseat in there.

Dhamp-The genesis' are NASTY! Nice cars they are

I understand. I had to buy a Yota Rolla for awhile. Loved it, for the 43.2mpg if I drove the speed limit, but my normal, hot dogging ricky racing around, I got 30city, 37hwy on trips from OKC to Laughlin, NV cuz I was driving 80-110mph. It was a gear shifter car though and fun to drive. The automatics were sleds and didn't get good as mpg, although still good. Noone beleive me the car did 110, but it did, and not a mile over either it would shut down at 110. Took my dauther and son in law to Laughlin for their wedding gift since they didn't get a honeymoon, then they beleived me it did 110. I got to one area in AZ where the interstate makes long curves around mountains and hills going up and down, at 100+ its like riding a roller coaster. The SIL tried snapping a pic of the speedo when I was doing 110 around a long bermed curve and when I realized what the hell he was doing, I nailed the brake and he still got the speedo, but I didn't want the incriminating evidence. I bought the car for process serving legal docs when I was serving alot of paper and it paid off well. I did however have 15% tint on all the windows so noone could see me in it cuz I was ashamed to be driving a ricer. At least mine was assembled in USA though and the only way I could live with myself. Sadly this country won't do a damn thing about gas prices and they damn sure can, so this is what happens becaue of it. Now Americans are buying foreign cars at record breaking levels. I know many people like myself and you that have made the switch from an American SUV or Truck, to a foreign car.

Harley Dawg liked the car too. He went "laters" with me all the time, and on long trips too like to Abilene when I'd go see the daughter, SIL and granddaughters.

BTW, the daughter and SIL, just traded in both their car payments, her Pontiac G6 and his GMC Yukon for a Hyudai Elantra fully loaded with all kinds of ****. For the money and the features, including leather and crap like front AND REAR heated leather seats, sun/moon roof, stereo with Cell Phone blue tooth and MP3 jacks and featured well, they couldn't beat it. He is plumber now with a company van to drive, so they didn't need 2 cars anymore it worked out good for them. I just hope they have gotten better. As my daughter said, but dad its gots this 10year 100,000 mile warranty, and I said, yeah and it will sit in the shop for warranty work more than it will your driveway. I know Hyudai has gotten better, but Kia hasn't. I also towed a couple Elantra's for IAA that were really Fugged up in the wrecks, but the passenger compartment was all in tact very well, and all 6 front and side curtain air bags had been deployed. If you the seen the cars you'd think fatalities, until you looked insde the car, and then realized, they probobaly weren't even injured. I do hope for their sake and yours that they have improved on their reliabilty. :waytogo:

I love the new Hyundai Sonata's too, when we have to get her a new car we'd like to get one of those. They look good, get 40mpg, nice interior, and I love that double sun roof and the auto darkening windows.
