Removing paint and "polishing" it while maintaining patina?

Rest of the truck is in good shape but roof takes a beating in TX sun.

Id do that to mine but i dont think it would help in any way.

Before this time, the last time I machine polished the truck was 4+ years ago. Even with regular washing, dirt and other contaminants still build up . The original single stage paint just seems to collect everything. I'm thinking of clear coating.

I dont think it would so me any good. I tried with a buffer and meguires unsuccessfully.

Right, much of your paint is gone. You could try the mirror glaze I took a picture of.
Put it on thick, let it sit overnight and remove. Then put wax on.
The glaze helps "moisturize" the paint and the wax will protect.
Costs $6 or so from Amazon.

Keep in mind, glaze is "glazing" over the issue, and only a temporary fix. An old stealership trick it to glaze a used car, wax it, and push it out the door. Eventually, the glaze wears off, and you're left with the issue still. It will look good temporarily though.
