That's funny. I actually bought my rusty c10 partly as a "learning platform" for a lot of body work and paint items that I wasn't willing to try on a chevelle I've been restoring.

This truck is only meant to go fast, ugly or pretty lol

I took The tailgate off and did some wire wheel work to start, then a light coat of oil and a good wipe down to get the excess off.

thoughts ?

thatd be a badass patina scheme

Its not for me... But please don't take offense, I'm of the opinion that it's your truck and your opinion is really all that should matter. The only reason I replied is you specifically asked for opinions, and no one has spoken up yet.

So the real question is, do you like it?

Well, I always welcome all opinions

The truck needs a good bit of metal work if I'm to restore it and make it all one color,

However, it's growing on me.

I walked out this AM and looked at it again with frost all over it lol

I like it.... I'll sit on it another day or so. I might try other things that these gents tried

I did use sandpaper and it wouldn't cut it without destroying the old.

Wire wheel messes up the cardinal red

I think they put an enamel paint on the truck.

With the sun beating down on it, I snapped a pic to show the contrast.

Something to consider would be how much heat is the wire wheel putting into the panel and how much pressure you had to apply to get that look.

If you work a section and it stays cool to the touch you are good to go, but if it is getting warm/hot you run the risk of warping especially on the larger flatter panels.

How hard did you press when doing the tailgate? Tailgate is a heavy gauge body part with a bunch of structure to it, it's not likely to get damaged by wire wheeling. The big panels (especially the top of the cab) can be dented/damaged with much less force.

I've been a machinist 40 years, retired, today was my second day in a automotive machine shop, hope to build a couple quality motors, and do all the work on them, THAT's why I am interested in what you are/will run for an engine.

Idk if this project is done or not,but lacquer thinner will remove most repaints without hurting most factory paints. Take some lacquer thinner and check a spot in a door jamb or under the hood. You ever spray paint on something and everything starts bubbling up,that's usually lacquer thinner eating enamel.Use a bond spreader not a putty knife taking off the bubbled paint.
