1. Is there any reason not to remove it now that the column linkage is gone and I have a functioning floor shifter installed?
2. Will it come out easily after driving out the pin? Anything I should be careful of?

if your going to a floor shifter make sure your shifter Handle is long enough. I think the 15" range. The only shift I found that was new and under$300 was the Hurst Indy shifter on e-bay for 299. not the best shifter but it will work.It takes some time to set it up

Thanks that was indeed a problem for me. I bought the Hurst 366809
van and pickup shifter. It was tall enough to technically use, but not comfortably. I used a coupling nut to extend the knob back toward the driver and a little higher. Now it feels pretty nice. Wish it was a little less chunky looking, but it’s not too bad.

Any advice on whether I should try to remove the column shift lever?
