Hello all,

Wondering if I could get some input on different branded serpentine kit setups. My truck is a 79 350 short bed with PS and AC. My compressor is of the old R12 type and shot. As well as I’m needing a new alternator. So long story short I’d like to buy an all inclusive kit and do away with all my V belts and old accessories. What setup have you gone with and the pros cons to the manufacturer you went with. There’s a lot of options I know. But I’m looking for a budget friendly (1k-1.5k) reliable kit. March Performance, CVF, Key Rod Kustoms. Please advise my best route. Thanks for the input.

General Motors…

A serpentine set up from a GMT 400 (either the 88-95 or the 96-99) can be had for nearly no money from a wrecking yard. A little elbow grease and some paint they’ll be good as new.

all of your components and belt are able to be replaced with commonly available parts.

Here is the 96-99 version from the Vortec engine.

A third vote for adapting a OEM one. They don't exactly give them away at the salvage yard, I paid $250 at a pick a part a couple years ago with alternator, a/c compressor and power steering pump. You will need to pay attention to which water pump and fan you will use as some of them are reverse rotation. I think this was off a '94 Tahoe

No matter what you get verify waterpump rotation,if it rotates counterclockwise you will need to grab it and the fan. Also note what you are taking it off of write it down put the note in the glovebox. That way when you need a tensioner an idler a belt, whatever you will know what year model and engine instead of a bunch of guessing.

*and post teh picxzorz!!!:):):)

Yank a set up from an OBS truk and call it good.Don't seem very hard but ive never done it.
Id go straight to the OBS truck. Gmt400 or whatever its called. I think the newer vortex trucks are gmt800.

Grab the accessories and voila! How bad could it be? WAY cheaper than flippin 1500 bux.
Getcha the compressor and p/s lines too. LoL?

Might oughta consider a 79 truck is gonna all be standard thread. You'll have to source the steering lines and new bolts. You oughta be running a 7 blade fan already, no?
What cylinder heads u got?
Anything cool?

Not sure about the smog pump but thats easy to delete

So I talked to my buddy at work. He has everything from the front off of a 2003 1500 4.3L. Said I can have it. He’s Not gonna use it. Will this work? Will the brackets line up? And what about the water pump from the V6? Will I need a water pump for a V8? Thanks for the help and replies
