Rebuild an engine in the truck

I was going to say to dump some marvel mystery oil in al the cylinders and wait a day to crank it over by hand. I've used ratchet straps as hoists before. They hold a thousand pounds or so.

So I can’t find info in this. I want to know if anyone has ever done a re-ring kit with the engine still in the truck. I know big diesels are rebuild in frame all the time but I’ve never seen a light truck engine done. I ask because I don’t have an engine stand or hoist and don’t want to buy one as of yet. My 350 was weather seized and I want to do the bare minimum to get it running for a month or 2 until I can finish the rebuild of my 6.2 and swap it in. Am I crazy?

I'd say crazy for a month or two. Haha!

The big ones hold more like 3000#

I’m doing it, got the heads off and the oil pan and spraying some Kano rust eliminator on all parts with rust let it set for a week and see if it will turn over.

That’s what I’d do. Or some marvel mystery oil... some type of lubricant. You can drop the pan and spray from the bottom too
Take the front support off so you can stand right on top of the wrench to get as much solid leverage on it as possible

I have done a handful of top end jobs with the block still in the truck. It can be done, but absolutely sucks. The hardest part is getting a decent hone on #7 cylinder. The brake booster gets in the way. 4x4s seem to have better cross member clearance and it's easier to remove the oil pan. The main seal can be changed from underneath and change bearings all possible. It's just a painful way to try live with joy I'll tell you that. But sometimes we have to make do and do what we can with what we have.
Ultimately I prefer to bring the engine into my kitchen to rebuild. Ah the joys of not having any gf/wife pics to post online...!
