For what it is worth when I upgraded the mirror in my 2003 Silverado 2500HD I noticed that the basic mirror in it was the same as my '77 K20 mirror which was looking really ratty and old. I swapped them out with no problem. This was like at least 10 years ago so going off of memory here.
