Rear Shock Extenders

74 C10 with a 5/7 drop. I purchased shock extenders but my mechanic said they were not needed. I am here for a second opinion. Truck rides fine for a slammed unit. front rides on the bump stops from what I hear is normal but overall this piece is really bouncy on bad roads lol. Any advice will be great. Im ok with the stance as the tires in back are a bit bigger than the fronts so it has a raked stance. Will attach pics.

My truck (73 C10) was lowered by the P/O, 4.5/6.I had no problems with the rear, but when I replaced ll the shocks a few years ago, I also installed drop shackles in the rear. Looking at the angle of the shocks before, it was over 45% angle from Vertical and that wasn't helpimg me much. The shackes brought them straighter but still 35-40 degrees, that is much better for their travel.

The shackles were CPP from Classic industries. Driver's rear went in fine but pass side we had to bend/bang something maybe 1/2" over to get them on and the bolts through. I did not look into drop shocks, somebody here recommended KYBand part numbers that work for lowered. I'll see if I have that bookmarked.

I did a flip on mine and did not do the extenders. They say it keep the angle of the shock to help but I cannot confirm. If they do make it ride better mine would be awesome because it really doesn't ride bad now.

As far as the fronts, remove the bumps stops and cut them in half or don't reinstall them (this was my choice).

You do need the shock extenders for proper shock angle. They're meant to be used with stock height shocks though, so if you had drop shocks, those would be too short to reach which is likely why he said that.

For the front, the bump stops need to be cut at that height. My truck rides like a dream at 5/8 with the front bump stops cut in half and rear extenders with longer shocks.

I originally had drop shocks with no extenders in the rear. Then I bought them and the longer shocks, the truck rode so much better. Without the extenders, the shock is basically in a position that it rotates more than it dampens, hence the bounciness. It doesn't *look* like much of a difference but it's a HUGE difference in the ride.

Well every suspension component is brand new and shocks are original length. Pics attached.

and upon posting these pics, it looks like I'm riding on bump stops in the rear as well. smh. sorry to waste you guys time. I new to the c10 world. any advice on the rear bump stops.

Nevermind. upon glance again, extenders are not there.

Do you have a part number on those longer shocks. Im running factory and want to put these extenders on since I bought them.

I don't and I'm not near the truck, but they're just Belltech SP's. You can hit up Belltech, let them know your setup and they'll get you the PN#'s you need

It rides bad because it's on the bump stop already. Use extenders, kyb 344072 for the rear. Remove the factory bumpstop and it's bracket an replace with a low profile urethane one.

On the front my preferred shock is kyb 344068 and trim the factory bump stops as others have mentioned or you can use a low profile urethane one there as well.

You may be able to adapt a TIMBREN overload system to replace the bump stops.I did this on my '81 with only a 4" drop. It works well.
